How Goutham acquired customers
Tools used to build Famewall
Goutham Jay began building Famewall in public in February 2022, won the first paying customer in March, and crossed $1K MRR in September 2023.
Goutham Jay's first meaningful internet money did not come from a polished SaaS. After an earlier startup failed, he manually shortlisted engineering graduates for startups and made $300. Later, after cofounders left another consumer idea, he started building Famewall as a solo founder while still working his software job, planning to save up runway along the way.
Famewall was simple: collect customer testimonials with a link and embed them on websites, emails and other marketing surfaces. Goutham began building in public in February 2022 with around 100 Twitter followers, still employed full-time. After launch, he manually cold-DMed people who might benefit from the product. In April, one of those conversations became his first paying customer, while he was still at his job. He resigned in June 2022, after already crossing his first revenue milestones.
The route from first customer to $1K MRR was not linear. He stepped away for two months to try an email product, then came back when Famewall kept attracting customers even without active marketing. Social posts, onboarding improvements, dogfooding testimonials on the landing page, SEO articles and a customer education email sequence all compounded. By September 2023, Famewall crossed $1,000 MRR and was profitable enough for him to keep bootstrapping without rushing back to a job.
