Founder stories
AI-powered fitness app that automatically creates and adjusts workout plans with 3D exercise animations.
How Joseph acquired customers
Tools used to build GymStreak
Joseph taught himself to code while at Cambridge and built a fitness app empire with just contractors.
My name is Joseph Mambwe and I created the GymStreak app, which automatically creates and manages home & gym workouts. It intelligently adjusts your weight, reps, rest times and sets for you over time.
I was born in Zambia, moved to Botswana at 4, then to the UK at 12. I experienced broadband internet for the first time and got obsessed with learning random things online - from 3D modeling to web development.
At the University of Cambridge studying Engineering, I became obsessed with fitness. I concluded that the biggest factor in fitness success is pure consistency. "Be Unstoppable" became the mantra I wanted to share through GymStreak.
The problem? I didn't know how to code. So I taught myself.
One key differentiator is that all exercises are animated in 3D. Our app lets you view any exercise from any angle and project it into your environment using augmented reality. Perfect for beginners unsure about correct form.
In 2021 we did ~$300k in revenue. In 2022 we did ~$2.5 million. This year about the same - slowed by choice to spend time with my newborn daughter and improve product metrics.
The beauty of being bootstrapped is I get to make decisions like taking time off, as opposed to relentlessly pursuing growth at all costs. I'm relatively confident we could get to $15-20 million in ARR in the next 2-3 years.
