How Maxx acquired customers
Tools used to build Triple Whale
The Triple Whale founders built an analytics tool for their own DTC brand, then spun it into a 5,000+ customer SaaS with Shopify as an investor.
Maxx Blank, AJ Orbach, and Ivan Chernykh were running Madison Braids, an 8-figure Shopify brand. The most exhausting part? Hours of manual spreadsheet work to derive insights.
They built Triple Whale to solve their own pain - automating analytics, attribution, and forecasting for their DTC brand. But they realized the tool could be even more valuable as a standalone SaaS.
"Because we were running a successful ecommerce brand, we were able to bootstrap the early days of the startup until we got traction," said Maxx. Their complementary skills helped: AJ was the product visionary, Ivan the coding guru, and Maxx brought business and marketing experience.
Without massive followings, they cold-messaged DTC operators and hustled for attention on Twitter. When a few big influencers tested the platform and raved about it, momentum built. Shaan Puri's tweet to 350,000 followers was a turning point.
Triple Whale hit product-market fit fast. In just 2 years they grew to 100+ employees, 5,000+ clients, and raised $50M+ including investment from Shopify.
