Paul Yacoubian launched Copy.ai on Twitter and grew to $157K MRR in 10 months by building in public and leveraging GPT-3.
In October 2020, my co-founder Chris Lu and I launched Copy.ai on Twitter. Within 10 months of building in public, we had grown to over $157K MRR.
We shared everything publicly - our revenue numbers, our struggles, our wins. People love following along on a journey. Twitter became our primary growth channel.
We were one of the first to get GPT-3 API access. We built tools that helped marketers write copy faster - headlines, product descriptions, email subject lines. The AI did the heavy lifting.
By February 2021, just 4 months after launch, we hit $50K MRR. The organic growth from Twitter was incredible. Every tweet about our numbers attracted more users.
By August 2021, we had crossed $157K MRR with over 40,000 users. All from building in public and creating a product that genuinely helped people.
By 2024, Copy.ai had reached 10 million users. From a Twitter launch to one of the leading AI writing platforms.
