How Chris acquired customers
Tools used to build The Futur
Chris Do ran an Emmy-winning design agency for 22+ years. In 2014, he started making YouTube videos teaching creatives how to run businesses. That side project became The Futur β 2.5M subscribers and $4.9M+/year.
Chris Do is an Emmy award-winning designer who founded Blind, a motion design and brand strategy agency, in 1995. Over 22+ years, Blind worked with Nike, Google, Sony, Microsoft, and Riot Games β accumulating $80M+ in gross billings. But Chris had also been teaching at ArtCenter College of Design for 15+ years, and something nagged at him.
In 2014, his friend Jose Caballer convinced him to start making YouTube videos teaching the fundamentals of running a creative services business. The premise was simple: most designers are brilliant at design but terrible at business. Chris had run a profitable agency for two decades β he could teach what he'd learned.
The channel grew slowly at first. But Chris's direct, no-nonsense approach to teaching value-based pricing, sales negotiation, and creative business strategy resonated deeply with creatives worldwide who felt undervalued and underpaid.
Chris's philosophy became the engine: "Give as much away as possible for as little as possible without hurting yourself." The YouTube channel gave away premium-quality business education for free. This built enormous trust β and trust converts.
By 2020, The Futur launched courses and The Futur Pro membership community. The Pro community alone grew to 900+ members, generating $1M+ in annual revenue.
The YouTube channel hit 2.5M+ subscribers. The Futur grew to $4.9M+ in annual revenue from courses, community memberships, coaching, and consulting β all built on a foundation of free YouTube content.
Give away your best knowledge for free on YouTube β it builds trust that converts to paid products at scale
Decades of practitioner experience is the ultimate unfair advantage in education β Chris teaches what he actually did, not theory
Start as a side project alongside your main business β The Futur grew for years before becoming a standalone revenue engine
Serve an underserved audience β creatives desperately want business education but have few sources that speak their language
