Founder stories
Self-reported by the founder in his own Indie Hackers post: bootstrapped to $1M ARR in under 9 months with no outside capital. Not independently audited. Secondary trackers later suggested higher MRR, but we cite only the founder's own figure.

How Ramon acquired customers
Tools used to build Castmagic
Ramon Berrios and his co-founders built Castmagic to fix their own podcast workflow, then bootstrapped it to $1M ARR in under nine months with no outside money.
Ramon Berrios did not start Castmagic to chase the AI hype. He and his co-founders were already running a podcast, the DTC Pod, and kept hitting the same wall every week: turning a single long recording into show notes, summaries, and social posts ate hours of manual work. They built a tool to handle that grind for themselves, then realized every other creator they knew had the exact same problem.
Castmagic launched in early 2023 as a way to drop in an audio or video file and get back publish-ready content: transcripts, summaries, timestamps, quotes, and posts shaped for different platforms. Because Ramon already had an audience from the podcast and from building in public on X, the first paying users showed up fast. The team kept the focus narrow at the start, podcasters first, and improved the quality of the AI output before widening to a broader creator market.
The growth jump came from an AppSumo launch. Selling lifetime access on the marketplace brought in a large slug of cash and roughly ten thousand new users in a short window, which gave the team both runway and a flood of feedback to act on. They paired that with creator partnerships, some paid and some run as affiliate deals, so the product reached audiences that already trusted the person recommending it.
Throughout the run the founders stayed disciplined about money. They watched their spend on language models and transcription closely and kept marketing under a fifth of revenue, which let the business stay profitable while it grew. In his own Indie Hackers post in July 2024, Ramon said they had reached $1M ARR in under nine months with zero capital raised.
What makes the story useful for other founders is how ordinary the starting point was. There was no proprietary model and no funding round. There was a real workflow the founders hated, an audience that felt the same pain, and a marketplace launch that turned early interest into cash and users at once.
Build the tool for a job you already do yourself, so you know the workflow and can judge output quality without guessing.
An existing audience, even a niche podcast, shortcuts the cold-start problem for a brand-new product.
A marketplace launch like AppSumo can deliver cash and thousands of users at once, but treat the feedback as the real prize.
Keep variable AI costs and marketing spend capped as a share of revenue so growth does not erase profitability.
Creator and affiliate partnerships put your product in front of warm audiences instead of paying to interrupt cold ones.
